Billing

Why am I receiving multiple bills for my surgery?

The hospital/facility and your surgeon are separate entities and conduct their own billing. The charges are completely separate for facility and professional services, and you must resolve your outstanding balance with each entity accordingly.

Are you going to bill my insurance for my surgery?

Our office will submit all emergent services claims to your insurance for consideration. Elective surgery will depend on a patient choosing to use their out-of-network benefits or proceeding as a Self-Pay patient.

What does non-contracted/non-participating mean?

Non-contracted/non-participating are terms used by insurance companies to identify providers who do not have a signed contract with them. Currently, the physicians at the Arizona Center for Hand to Shoulder Surgery are not contracted providers with many commercial plans. This means that any services you receive from one of our physicians will apply to your out-of-network benefits if we are not contracted with your insurance company. For more information on your out-of-network benefits, please contact the member services department for your specific insurance company and request more details about your particular plan.

My insurance has denied or underpaid my claims. How can I get them to reconsider their decision?

Contact your insurance company and find out about their appeals/grievance process, and what options you have in your benefit plan. Keep accurate records of who you speak with, what numbers you are calling, dates, and reference numbers for your calls. You may also reach out to your company’s Human Resources department for help. Above all, be persistent with the insurance company and follow up as necessary.

What is my responsibility while I am appealing my insurance carrier?

Please pay your balance due or contact our office for monthly payment options. In the event that your insurance makes an additional payment that would overpay your claim(s), a refund would be coordinated accordingly.

My insurance has finalized what they are going to pay for my claim(s), what is my next step?

Please contact our office to discuss your options for any remaining balance on your account. We offer lump sum payment discounts (these do not apply to patient coinsurance or deductible responsibility), payment arrangements, and a Financial Hardship application for qualified patients.

What is coinsurance or deductible responsibility?

Your deductible is the amount you pay for covered health care services before your insurance plan starts to pay anything towards your claims. Often there is a separate deductible for your in-network and out-of-network benefits and each must be met separately. Your coinsurance is the percentage of costs of a covered health care service you pay after you have paid your deductible. Often there is a higher coinsurance percentage for out-of-network benefits than in-network benefits. Contact your specific insurance for plan details.

How can I pay my bill?

You can make your payment by using the Pay My Bill option on our website. You will need a current statement from our office that provides your log-in credentials (note that the balance reflected on the statement whose log-in credentials are used will be the balance reflected when you log in. Please use your most recent statement for the most up to date balance information. You will have the option to set up e-statements once logged in to the payment portal). Alternately, you may contact our billing department to pay over the phone or mail your payment to our office. Arizona Center for Hand Surgery accepts all major credit cards, cash, certified funds, personal checks* and Care Credit.

*We do not accept personal checks to secure payment for an upcoming surgery.
